It is still very cold here.
So, I thought I would share some links on surviving extreme cold temperatures.
Extreme cold temperatures are hard on the human body, hard on animals/livestock and hard on machinery.
Layers of protective clothes, lotions and oils for lips and exposed skin are necessary to prevent frostbite. It is also important to increase intake of fluids and high calorie foods to fuel the body and to keep your inner core warm. Hypothermia is a condition that occurs when your body’s core temperature begins to drop. Warm fluids and high fat/high protein foods can help sustain you temporarily while outside in cold temperatures.
Additional bedding for livestock as well as increased food will help animals survive cold temperatures.
Machinery requires a little extra care too. In prolonged cold weather it is a good idea to lubricate moving parts with a synthetic lubricating oil. These synthetics will not freeze of gum-up in extreme cold. For running a semi-auto firearm look here for tips on how to prevent malfunctions due to extreme cold.
