Firewood

In this part of the country Winter can be severely cold for extended periods. Many people opt for a supplemental heat source using a wood-burning stove. Keeping the stove stoked requires having plenty of wood on hand. For many people, the gathering, cutting, splitting and stacking of wood is a major part of their activity schedule, all for the purpose of keeping your house warm.

Just down the road from my place there is a man who spends most of every day, all day, receiving truckloads of logs.

 

Those logs are then run through the cutter and splitter.

This machine will split the logs into quarters and cut them to standard lengths for wood burning stoves.  After cutting the pieces of wood are run up the conveyor belt and dropped into a pile.

I use the sawdust from this outfit in my garden for mulch.
