Google Analytic and You!

As I enter the 18th month of writing this blog the number of articles I’ve published is approaching 100. I am trying to determine what is working and what is not. How can I make this site a better learning experience for ESL students?

To that end, I had installed the Google Analytic program. Initially, I wanted to get an idea of how may people were visiting the site, how long they were staying and what articles were drawing the greatest level of interest. I also wanted to know where my visitors were.

The program’s capabilities are astonishing! Much of the information that is captured by this software is way over my head. However, I can see the potential of such a tool to help the businessperson, entrepreneur or market researcher to analyze their audience and design the products or services to meet the needs of their respective markets.

A quick review of the data for reveals some interesting and encouraging information. I say encouraging because the readership is wider and more diverse that I expected. There are people in 11 countries reading this website.

As most of my students know, my largest audience is in China. This is due to the simple fact that most of my students are in China and I promote the blog to them directly. I also have students in Japan, France and the U.S. In the past, I’ve had students in Canada, Brazil, Germany, Russia, U.K. and Thailand though none currently in any of those countries.

I am pleased to say that in China it appears the blog enjoys readership in 10 cities! I think I only have students in about 6 cities. I give great thanks to my friends and students for referring their friends or family members to the website.

In Brazil, France, Russia and Thailand the data indicate readers in 3 cities each. In Australia, 4 cities, Vietnam, 2 cities. Bangladesh, U.K. and Japan 1 city each.. To my surprise, I also find that there are folks in the U.S. reading my blog. I am aware that some friends in Colorado and New York check out the site and I have one student in California and one in N.Y., but apparently, there are readers in Florida, Nevada, Texas, Virginia, Indiana and Michigan and I don’t know anyone who lives in any of those states.

To all of you who visit this blog, I want to say thanks for reading and please feel free to comment. Introduce yourself in the comment section and say hello to other ESL students. Don’t be shy.
