Lunar Cycles and Planetary Alignments.

Another Lunar Cycle Passes

by Kevin Neary

The full Hunter’s moon rising high

in October’s evening sky.

A hint of wood smoke on the breeze

the scent of over-ripe apples

from a neighboring orchard of trees

the musty fragrance of

dead and decaying oak leaves.

Close my eyes and dream away

just before dawn awaken

to greet the day.

Looking east

There in the morning sky

Jupiter, Mercury, Mars and Venus

all visible to the naked eye.

Another lunar cycle passes.

In the infinite wisdom of the universe

time will cease to exist

when two souls

like planets kiss.

This October’s full moon was a super moon. You can read all about the Harvest Moon here.

Planetary line ups like the one I’ve been witnessing for over a month are not so common and even less common is having more than a month of clear pre-dawn morning sky to view the heavenly show! Apparently, there will be more of the same in November.

The moon is bigger than I’ve seen before, it’s clear, round, and a little bit of chill. The photo is just like a painting, I feel some lonely feelings because of the three houses standing there. A very poetic photo! I like it very much.

    1. Ok, you like the photo, but not a word about the poem?!

Haha, I recognize I didn’t comment your poem as soon as I finished submitting.
When I first read the poem, I thought it is a songs’ lyrics. I found it is not. It really surprised me that you can write the poem like this. The rhythm makes me feel happy, the meaning of the poem is so comfortble and imaginative. If you read the poem while listening to some light music in the background(eg. piano light music), I think it is easy to fall asleep. I must admit that you are an innovative, positive and passionate poet!
I can read from the poem that you are enjoying and loving your life. Thanks for sharing your poems and your creative writing. I like it very much. Looking foreword to more works you create.

        1. Thanks for your high praise and lovely comment.
