Sunset doesn’t last all evening.

Long ago, before Heavy Metal, Punk Rock and all the rest of the cacophony out there today….

There was a band called the Beatles. They came from England and they had a profound impact on the world music scene. Their sound was new, fresh and innovative… it was different than anything that had come before. Their influence is still recognized in the music world and many of their songs have been covered by artists across genres and generations.

Paul McCartney and John Lennon wrote the lyrics to most of the group’s songs, but George Harrison was the more accomplished musician of the quartet. Harrison was also the most down to earth member. He never allowed the “tidal wave of bullshit” (his words describing the pop music industry) to affect his sense of self. Harrison was a bit of a mystic, but I think the record shows the man did quite a bit for charities that aided many of the world’s poorest people.

Sadly, George succumbed to cancer back in November of 2001. He didn’t make it to 60. Pity.

One of Harrison’s most memorable tunes from the album by the same name;

All Things Must Pass
by George Harrison

Sunrise doesn’t last all morning
A cloudburst doesn’t last all day
Seems my love is up
And has left you with no warning
But it’s not always going
To be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away

Sunset doesn’t last all evening
A mind can blow those clouds away
After all this my love is up
And must be leaving
But it’s not always going
To be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away

All things must pass
None of life’s strings can last
So I must be on my way
And face another day

Now the darkness only stays at night time
In the morning it will fade away
Daylight is good
At arriving at the right time
But it’s not always going
To be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
All things must pass away

**

The album – All Things Must Pass, was a monumental recording session that produced a 3 record set of hot jams from Bob Dylan to Eric Clapton and a host of all-star musicians of that era.
